When a war comes rushing to the front steps of her homeland, leaving nothing but ash and corpses, Jo, and her compatriots find themselves struggling to make their way in a world pushed to the brink. Wrought with tension, Auchlan and Harlan as nations persist in a state of conflict, doing nothing to dull the flames of war that have smoldered for nearly a century. As plagues spread and fields lay empty, this senseless conflict threatens to boil over into an even more senseless slaughter. In Eastknoll, a small village situated far from Auchlan, the war has thankfully stayed far from its borders. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the Harlan government, taxing its villagers for more than they can provide. A simple nobody with a hard head and strong arm, Jo finds herself rushing towards the middle of the decades-long turmoil and the heart of the entire continent's fate.
